AUSTRALIAN WHITES
WHAT ARE AUSTRALIAN WHITES
Australian whites are a fairly new composite meat sheep breed that I feel is set to take Queensland by storm.
They are a mix of Texel, Van Rooy, White Dorper & Poll Dorset breeds. They are a medium to large framed sheep. They are bred to have hair and shed well. Australian Whites have been bred to excel in the harsh conditions that are often presented here in Queensland.
I have found them to be exceptional mothers lambing out with ease. Lamb growth is exceptional making Australian White rams a valuable addition to any "fat lamb" enterprise.

WHY WE CHOSE AUSSIE WHITES
First to attract me to the breed was the look of the Australian Whites, you have to admit that they are an attractive breed. Then once I researched I found them to be a quiet easy to handle animal that is fast growing.
I liked the fact they are a shedding breed so no shearing and less maintenance which equals lower costs of production as there are no issues with lice or flies. Meat tenderness is exceptional. I can also see a growing market for Australian whites.
Once word gets around and people become familiar with this breed and of course our seasons improve I feel they are set to take off. I am enjoying working with Australian Whites very much. I am able to handle them myself and our lambing has been easy and they have proven themselves as exceptional mothers raising stunning lambs.
